Chittagong, Sep 17 (bdnews24.com) — Police have detained 120 people, who were trying to 'illegally' migrate to Malaysia crossing the Bay of Bengal through Chittagong's Banshkhali area.
Officer-in-Charge of the Banshkhali Police Station Akter Hossain told bdnews24.com, "We arrested them around 3am on Monday with the assistance of the local Union Parishad Chairman."
They were detained from the coastal area adjacent to Banshkhali upazila's Chhanua Union.
He said the detainees were trying to migrate to Malaysia in an engine-run boat.
The law enforcers are looking into the identity of the detainees.
Legal actions would be taken against them if proof of illegal migration attempts were found, the police officer said.
